Our Philosophy

Spaces matter. The important moments of our lives take place in our homes and offices. You have aspirations for what you want those spaces to look like, to feel like. For us, the process begins with listening to you talk — about your ideas, concerns, and hopes for what the space will be. You share images of a hotel you visited in Florence, describe a cottage you envisioned from a book, or show us a room painted by Vermeer. We share our ideas to organize and articulate your vision. Then, we make it happen.

Our story

Susan Stacy Design offers clients a unique design perspective, simultaneously streamlined and comprehensive. With an emphasis on enhancing each client’s lifestyle, Susan views her design work as a collaboration focused on fully and accurately extracting and expressing the client’s vision.

With hundreds of projects successfully executed to date, Susan’s work encompasses high-end residential, commercial, and hospitality undertakings throughout the United States and Canada. Susan Stacy Design’s residential work features family compounds, new home construction, restored estates, and even a vintage wooden commuter yacht. Commercial projects include numerous clubs, restaurants, residential towers, and resort inns. Many of these have been featured in local and national publications, as well as in Andrew Martin’s esteemed Interior Design Review.

After invaluable mentoring from some of the top designers in the field and operating Gauthier Stacy for more than twenty years, Susan re-launched that business in 2023 as her own firm, Susan Stacy Design, in order to fully express her interior design and architectural creativity with clients. Prior to founding Gauthier Stacy in 1996, she worked at Tradewinds, Bennet-HDG, Bierly-Drake Associates, and CBT Architects. Susan received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and studied Architecture at the University of Copenhagen.

Recipient of multiple awards and accolades, Susan was honored as a 2014 inductee into New England Design’s Hall of Fame. She was also previously recognized with a Presidential Citation from the New England Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers in 2007 for outstanding accomplishment and lasting contributions in the field of interior design.
